Am I at Risk for High Blood Pressure?
Sometimes, there is no known cause of hypertension, but often it is caused by an underlying health problem. So while the cause of high blood pressure is not always clear, there are things that can put you at greater risk for developing hypertension.
There are specific factors that increase your risk, like if you:
- Have close family members with high blood pressure
- Are older; your risk increases as you age
- Are overweight
- Drink a lot of alcohol
- Eat a poor diet, with a lot of salt
- Do not exercise
